RAM is a public Mobile Data Network, providing a communication link between base and
mobile. The
role of the data link is for the the transmission of the assignment and other messages
from the Command and Control system or the Terrafix Text Message application to the
vehicles and for transmission of status and other information from the vehicles to the
headquarters.
The RAM Mobile Data network uses standard Mobitex protocols and modems. A typical
message is transmitted in under five seconds between base and mobile applications.
Tariffs are based upon monthly data usage per vehicle. Various tariff bands are
available with the most appropriate selected for a particular application.
Base connection can either be via a fixed modem or X25 link.
