Terrafix Interface Unit

The TIU is the newly designed
robust intelligent interface unit.
A powerful multi- functional
unit the TIU acts as a hub for in-vehicle applications. It incorporates
a highly accurate 16 channel GPS receiver, internal GPRS/GSM modem
and a memory card for data logging.
The TIU is software configurable
so that it can be customised to specific applications and operational
enviroments. It also allows a hands free kit or equivalent microphone
system to be plugged into the GSM unit providing the user with voice
capability.
The TIU has been successfully
installed in 500+ emergency vehicles in Scottish Ambulance service
where extreme operational conditions are par for the course.

Scottish Ambulance
Service Selected Terrafix To Provide The 1st GPRS Automatic Vehicle
System
2002 saw Scottish Ambulance
Service and Terrafix joining forces to provide one of the largest
ambulance services in the world with Automatic
Vehicle Location System utilising the latest in communication technology.
Utilising GPRS communications,
the AVL system will cover the whole landmass of Scotland and associated
islands with a full vehicle tracking solution.
Adrian Lucas, Chief Executive of Scottish Ambulance
expressed his satisfaction with placing his contract with Terrafix
by saying,
"We have now ensured that the Service
will be able to track all our vehicles throughout our entire operational
area, as we predicted some months ago. The selection of the Terrafix
system utilising GPRS also allows us to expand the system in the
future to full mobile data capability."
Initially 500 frontline emergency vehicles are fitted
with AVL. It is expected that this will eventually expand to cover
all the ambulance service vehicles both emergency and non-emergency.
This will mean that approximately 1100 vehicles will be equipped.
Using GPRS will allow Scottish Ambulance to update
their vehicle positions every 13 seconds under all operational conditions!
John Rosson, Managing Director of Terrafix says,
"This is a significant contract for
the company both in terms of its size and use of new technology.
This will allow other emergency services to benefit from the cost
effective high speed tracking."
