In 2001, Royal Berkshire Ambulance Service implemented a Terrafix Mobile Data and Automatic Vehicle Location System.

The fleet of 30 emergency ambulances were fitted with Terrafix Mobile Data Terminal, providing AVL, two-way messaging, job dispatch and digital mapping.

Included in the solution was full maintenance and support.

The initial system utilised the RAM network for its communications, it now uses GPRS as its data communications.

Subsequent enhancements Officers cars and RRV’s have been equipped with the Terrafix Satellite Data Interface solution, providing two-way status with full voice and satellite guidance/navigation.

The installation of the Terrafix system enabled the Trust to respond to Emergency Calls more swiftly and to deal with life threatening situations more effectively.

Royal Berkshire PTS

In 2004 Terrafix installed a state-of-the-art mobile data system into the Non Emergency Patient Transport division. The system incorporated AVL, Log Sheet Management and Status Software, on the Terrafix Mobile Computer 1450 (TMC 1450) with the Intelligent Interface Unit. The introduction of the TMC 1450 meant that with touch screen technology and colour maps, for the first time complete schedules can be held in the vehicle and updated in real time, providing a dynamic system.

The system delivered a fully interactive management capability, which supports dynamic scheduling and real-time management of resources and reduces the reliance on paper based systems.
